Paddyfield Pipit

25th July 2010, Kemensah, Selangor.

Update: Earlier posted as Richard’s Pipit

You would see them on the ground, making their way in the grass, in search of  food. It was a hot day and the bird was panting to keep cool._DSC0298

A puddle of water was an obvious choice.

  1. Hi Madi

This used to be called Richard's Pipit, but is now known as Paddyfield Pipit (Anthus rufulus). Richard's is, at best a rare migrant visitor. Your bird is a juvenile, as can be told by the nice fresh plumage.

    Thanks

    Dave

  2. Nice images Madi. It's difficult to keep up with all the lumping and splitting but what's important is enjoying the bird.

  3. Good to know the latest info/ names. As you correctly pointed out even the guide books don't stay current for very long. Thanks Dave, Phil.
