Banded Broadbills

18th July 2010, Kemensah, Selangor.

Although I have seen them before I haven’t  really managed to capture any decent shots of these beautiful birds until today. Four Banded Broadbills  were in the area, vocalizing loudly. At one point all four were on the same tree right above my head. Identified 2 males 1 female, not sure about the fourth. The first three photos are of the female , without the black collar.

Other than the black collar band on the male there are no other perceptible differences  between the sexes.

Haven’t really had any  good opportunity for a decent  shot as far as my encounters with Banded Broadbills are concerned.

Revealed: Banded Broadbill

27th December 2009,  Kemensah, Selangor

I could hear their distinctive call every time I went into Kemensah. They were definitely there but so far they had refuse to show themselves.
It all changed today when  two Banded Broadbills (Eurylaimus javanicus) flew in and landed quite close to where I was.  This is my long awaited Lifer. It’s not clear from these photos whether it’s a male or female.
