Velvet-Fronted Nuthatch

24th July 2010, Kemensah, Selangor.

You won’t believe how close they will come  near you. She was about 4 feet away when I  took the video.

Birds of Bentong

22nd & 23rd  May 2010, Bentong, Pahang.

DSC_0148

We had a family gathering  at my brother-in-law’s orchard, a beautiful place  on high ground with the hills of Bentong as the backdrop.

I was curious as to what species of bird  I would find there. Spent 2 hours on Saturday afternoon and 3 hours Sunday morning  to see what I could photograph.

The result was quite interesting.

Either a female Brown-Throated  or Red throated Sunbird  (shot by Ilyas).  I’m more inclined to go for the latter  because of the orange tinge at the throat.

Spider…man: Velvet Fronted Nuthatch Again

17th April 2010, Kemensah, Selangor.

_DSC0137 Feeding shots of the Velvet-fronted Nuthatch. This the second time I’ve shot this species hunting spiders. This is a female

_DSC0136

_DSC0056 I’m not sure what’s in her mouth, doesn’t look like a spider. These two are males with the black post-ocular lines.

Up Close and Personal: Velvet-Fronted Nuthatch

10th April 2010, Kemensah, Selangor

_DSC0168
I’ve never been in a situation where I had to back off in order to get a full bird in frame. Well it happened with  this bird and she’s a  very small bird.
There were four Nuthatches in the area and this particular bird flew down to about 5 feet from us. These are uncropped full frame photos .

It was an excellent day of birding with 4 beautiful lifers.

Lifer 1: A Velvet-Fronted Nuthatch (Sitta frontalis) on her feeding round. She’s one difficult bird to keep track, she just kept moving non-stop. There were 2 Nuthatches at different locations in Kemensah today.
