Female Bamboo Woodpecker

2nd May 2011, Kemensah, Selangor

 

A female Bamboo Woodpecker boring a hole in a young macaranga tree.( see the male). This particular area has yielded a few reasonable shots of this shy  woodpeckers.

WoodStripper? : Bamboo Woodpecker

15th May 2010, Kemensah, Selangor.

Difficult to get good pictures of  the Bamboo Woodpeckers  because they are always too far . This was only my second encounter with this species.  Anyway  this is a male  bird ‘stripping’ the soft outer layer of the stem to get to the food._DSC0059

Another lifer on the new trail, a Bamboo Woodpecker (Gecinulus viridis). I wonder whether they suffer from headaches after a day  of hammering .
