Species: Mugimaki flycatcher

Local Name: Sambar Mugimaki

Scientific Name: Ficedula mugimaki

Equipment: Nikon 1 V2 + Nikkor AFS-VR 400mm f/2.8G

I think this could be a first–winter male judging by the  intense orange colour at the throat and breast ( compared to this female).

One wouldn’t think that these two birds belong to the same  species simply by the looks.

The female appeared  to be ahead in stocking up energy than the male for their upcoming flight north.

Mugimaki Flycatcher: Sayonara

Local Name: Sambar Mugimaki

Scientific Name: Ficedula mugimaki

This male would probably end up being my only Mugimaki flycatcher  since the migrant birds are already flying back North as the  season is drawing to a close.

Mugimaki Flycatchers

19th February 2011, Awana , Genting Highland, Pahang.

This long-range shot of an adult  male Mugimaki flycatcher  was captured at Gunung Ulu Kali, Genting earlier in the morning.

The following two images were taken at Awana, Genting. I‘m still not 100% sure whether she’s a female Mugimaki or  a first-winter male.  Both look very similar except for the more pronounced  supercilium of the first-winter male. My feeling is that  it’s a female.

Finally, managed to get some shots of this elusive migratory  bird the Mugimaki flycatcher  (Ficedula mugimaki). Wasn’t easy  since she wasn’t keen on being out in the open.  Lifer
