This bird  puzzles me. She displays bluish feathers on her flanks and the orange-rufous feather on the breast extends down her flanks. Usually Tickell’s Blue Flycatchers have a sharp demarcation of the orange-rufous and the white belly.

Tickell’s–Blue Flycatchers

19th June 2011, Kemensah, Selangor

It was fairly quiet in Kemensah, not many birds were out and about. Then my luck changed when  a pair of Tickell’s blue flycatchers  flew onto a nearby bamboo tree. I’ve never photographed  a pair in one frame before so this  was a great opportunity not to be missed. The male ( right) has a  darker blue plumage than the female and a blackish patch around the  face.

The straight/ clear cut orange colour on the breast is the distinctive feature of this flycatcher.

I’m Tickelled Blue

8th May 2010, Kemensah, Selangor.

A pair of Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher came out to play in front of the camera as I was waiting for the Blue-Banded Kingfisher . Just simply too good an opportunity to  let go.

Again !: Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher

28th February 2010, Kemensah, Selangor

It was a day for close-ups. This male Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher was singing away, not bothered by my presence. I was able to inch closer and closer to him without alarming him too much.

The background isn’t too cluttered so I’m quite pleased with the outcome.

Tickell’s Blue Flycatchers were very active yesterday. The male (Cyornis tickelliae indochina) (above)  has dark blue upperpart whereas the female sumatranensis (right) in the  lighter blue. My first of the male bird.  _DSC0777

No way that you could have missed this female Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher (Cyornis tickelliae). He was calling so loudly you could hear him from quite a distance. My first encounter with this flycatcher was about 6 months ago so this was a lovely surprise.
