Early Waders in Sabak

11th September 2011, Kg Tok Lukot, Sabak, Kelantan

I wasn’t able to go back to my hometown during  the Hari Raya break. Made a trip back to see my parents and in-laws in Kota Bharu  last weekend. A  few hours late Sunday afternoon was spent in Sabak to photograph early migrants in the area. Shooting in Sabak  always leaves me wishing how I had more reach with my gear, 300mm is a severe handicap  when it comes to waterbirds.

Overall it was good day  with some of the  birds coming in quite close to my position  in the middle of the swamp area.

A female Grey Wagtail local name : Pipit Batu, making her way along the marshy area next to the fish pond. Usually Wagtails are very wary around human but this bird wasn’t too bothered. Probably she’s used to the presence of the pond caretakers . ( Photos taken behind their house)

Grey Wagtail: clean shots!

15th November 2009, Taman Rimba Ampang, Selangor

At last, these are photos of the Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea) in a cleaner surrounding. The ones taken in Kemensah had too much rubbish,  which was rather distracting.

Grey Wagtail - more colourful than the name.

18th October 2009, Kemensah, Selangor

I’ve noticed  Grey Wagtails (Motacilla cinerea) in Kemensah over the last couple of weeks. This is my third attempt at shooting these birds which on two previous occasions I had failed   to get any decent photos. As the name suggests,  you can see them wagging their tail near the stream or  in the middle of the road. This particular  bird  is a female. Although they prefer being out in the open it is difficult to get close to these birds as they seem to maintain a certain distance from human.

As seen from these photos, Kemensah has not been spared from the ravages of human activities. Lately illegal dumping of unwanted building materials have become quite rampant. A  red painted door leaf thrown into the river  as the backdrop.

I don’t think she appreciates the rock-to-rock carpet. Absolute madness!
