WoodStripper? : Bamboo Woodpecker

15th May 2010, Kemensah, Selangor.

Difficult to get good pictures of  the Bamboo Woodpeckers  because they are always too far . This was only my second encounter with this species.  Anyway  this is a male  bird ‘stripping’ the soft outer layer of the stem to get to the food._DSC0059

  1. Nice 'bird in action shot', by the way surely it's not bamboo that it's stripping!

  4. it's good to catch up again with you Madi. The sunbirds are superb, you captured all the variations of colour there. Bamboo Woodpecker is a new one on me, is the bill that pale or is it the flash? In any case you obviously did well to get a picture or two.

  5. Thanks all for your comments. Phil, the colour of the bill is naturally whitish/ ivory.
