Checker-Throated Woodpecker

10th January 2010,  Kemensah, Selangor

There are  several species of Woodpeckers which are  generally red and green and at a glance they look  almost similar. These photos of a Checker-Throated Woodpecker  were taken at  extremely long –range (for my lens & photos highly cropped)  as they tend to forage on the upper tier of the canopy.

Update: Sorry wrong ID. earlier posted as Greater yellow naped Woodpecker_DSC0606

  1. Great photos, as usual. I really like how you caught the sun backlighting its yellow crest. Does this woodpecker seem to have unusually large feet?
