Adult Male Tiger Shrike

30th April 2011, Gunung Ulu Kali, Genting Highlands, Pahang

Most Tiger Shrikes that we see here are the first-winter birds and there’s always some excitement out  in the field when an adult is sighted.

  2. Hi Madi

Most people don't realize that shrikes, unlike many passerines, have a winter plumage. So it's only now that we get the chance to see them in their stunning breeding plumage. The birds we see earlier aren't (just) first year birds, but adults in non-breeding plumage.

  3. Hi Dave
Thanks for the info. This is definitely something new to me. I was under the impression that they were only first year birds.
