Olive-Backed Sunbird (Cinnyris jugularis) busy with its early morning routine. Was ill-prepared for birding since the main reason for the trip was a wedding. These were shot handheld with the 300mm non VR lens & TC, turned out OK.

Sorry I Forgot: Eurasian Tree Sparrows

Went  back to my parent’s house in Kota Bharu  for a wedding. Shot some birds around the house. I realized then that I haven’t  really shot photos of the Eurasian Tree Sparrows due to the fact that they  are so  common. Anyway, here they are. I  wasn’t  expecting them to throw in a surprise.

The timber gazebo is where they usually congregate.

Dendrelaphis haasi: It’s A Snake

A non-venomous  Haas's Bronzeback (Dendrelaphis haasi ) local name Ular lidi, slithering  along the bamboo looking for potential prey. A relatively new species often confused with the Common Bronzeback ( ref: Amphibians & Reptiles of Peninsular Malaysia) .

I try not to be too clever  as far as snakes are concerned. My motto:    Jump First,  Pictures Later!

Crimson-Breasted Flowerpecker

Again !: Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher

It was a day for close-ups. This male Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher was singing away, not bothered by my presence. I was able to inch closer and closer to him without alarming him too much.   The background isn’t too cluttered so I’m quite pleased with the outcome.

The Other Half: Raffle’s Malkoha

28th February 2010, Kemensah, Selangor Shot the male Raffle’s Malkoha (Cenok Kerak) a few weeks back. Saw  four  of these birds  on Sunday and among them was this female.
