Grey-and-Buff Woodpecker (Hemicircus concretus sordidus). You can tell by the red crown that it’s a male. He’s been putting on extra styling gel , a very trendy bird! This photo of the female was taken in January 09. Notice the difference in the colour of the crown. Strange that both male and female lack the black stripe at the eye ( as per Robson’s Field Guide). Is this a new sub-species? |

ReplyDeletemale is more outstanding in terms of plumages/ crest and etc...need the ultra "vain" factor to exaggerate a sense of self-importance that attract the opposite sex I guess.
Beautiful bird with crimson forehead and crown that looks like Pharaoh's crown.
