| Bidor, Perak,10 June 2009 Detoured to Bidor, the World Petai Trade Centre, after a meeting in Ipoh to replenish my supply of fresh petai. I’ve read somewhere that there are ponds there full of water birds. Didn’t know exactly where they were but decided to try my luck. Saw a sign saying FRIM Bidor. Took a turning to the reseach facility and hit the bull's eye, a few ponds with herons and water fowls. | One tip: Stay in and shoot from your car. You can get closer to the birds than if you’re trodding around with the tripod. I found out the hard way after spending one hour in the 2.30 pm sun. |

| Kota Bharu, Kelantan, 5th June 2009. Was testing my flashgun on this Heart of a Banana Tree (local name:Jantung Pisang) when I spotted some movements through my viewfinder. A male Brown-Throated Sunbird (Anthreptes malacensis) had landed on the heart and performing gymnastics to get to the banana flowers. Here are some of the movements: how did he score? | |
 Handspring front - forward entry onto the vault, front flip off, done in the tucked position, with a ½ twist.  Tkatchev - from handstand on high bar, swing down release, fly over high bar in straddle position to regrasp. | |

Went back to my hometown, Kota Bharu (meaning New Castle. Now you know why I support the Magpies!) . I saw a silhouette of a bird on a lamp post. Took a photo of the bird thinking that it was a shrike and what a surprise as it turned out to be a very small raptor which I had not seen before. A Black-Thighed Falconet (Microhierax fringillarius). No bigger than a tiger shrike I was fascinated to see this bird starting out so early on its hunt for prey. From what I could gather, this pair have made the lamp post in font of my brother-in-law’s house their regular perch. | |
