Mountain Imperial Pigeons

30th October 2011, Fraser’s Hill, Pahang.

They are pretty sizeable birds (41-53cm),  the majestic Mountain Imperial Pigeons. I guess It must have been my lucky day.  I was concentrating on a single pigeon  perching on the open branch when two other birds decided to fly in !

Little Pied Flycatchers

30th October 2011, Fraser’s Hill, Pahang.

This pair are regulars at Jelai Resorts. So far I do not have any decent photos of the male so for  this trip I was aiming to get myself  a few improvement shots.

Slaty-Backed Forktail: Close Encounter

30th October 2011, Fraser’s Hill, Pahang.

She nearly crashed into my windscreen as I reached the old traffic guard post at Fraser’s Hill. She went to the roadside and started  making her way along the drain, sometimes disappearing in the drain itself. I wasn’t ready , and all my  gear was at the back of the car but luckily she stayed long enough for me to setup and put in  a couple of shots from  a distance.

Paddyfield Pipit

14th October 2011, Bidor, Perak

Bumped into this little guy, scurrying along the dirt track before she paused momentarily on a grassy patch. I always make an  extra effort to shoot the Pipits because you never know that could be your Richard’s.

Cattle Egret’s Buffalocade

14th October 2011, Bidor, Perak

Cattle King: Is the ferry service ready Mr Buffalo?… That’s probably what the egret was enquiring.

Mr Buffalo: At your service  Cattle King

Mr Buffalo: Hop on…. a few extra  bodyguards just to be sure.

Cattle King: Oh oh….What’s up  Special Agent Myna?

Agent Myna:  Looks like we have some security issues, better not leave this Buffalocade. There’s a funny looking guy eyeing us through a scope!

Cattle King: Oh… come on, this is Bidor. They don’t shoot Egrets  out here… do they?

Agent Myna: ‘One can’t be too sure Cattle King. From what I hear things are quite bad in Kuala Selangor, they are not locals and egrets are their delicacy!'

Lesser Whistling Ducks

14th October 2011, Bidor, Perak

5 Lesser Whistling Ducks  were resting on the opposite side of the pond. Took some shot and attempted to move closer but these ducks just would not tolerate anybody approaching them on foot. They  took flight once I  entered their comfort zone.

Buff-Rumped Woodpecker

9th October 2011, Semenyih, Selangor

It has been quite sometime since I last saw this woodpecker. On this occasion a pair decided to feed  on a low tree not far from my position.  It is usually the male that is more colourful in the animal kingdom and in this case the male  has a red patch on the cheek and denser vermiculation on the face compared to the female.

Common Kingfisher

9th October 2011, Semenyih, Selangor

All my previous shots of this beautiful migrant Kingfisher were taken when the birds were on a man-made structure. This time I was lucky to have this Common Kingfisher hunting in a  more natural surrounding.
